“This is something I've always known in my heart, but get to see in practice daily at Rise: that the mind is the key, and when we find a way to empower the mind we can better withstand the challenges we face.”
Tell us about your early roots in your practice of choice.
The sauna has been a part of my life since my early years growing up in Austria, where the sauna is a part of the culture. As I traveled the world over the years, I explored the culture further, experiencing the Russian banya and Japanese onsen. I got deeper into the practice as I developed our signature sauna experience at Rise.
What inspires you in your practice?
I’m inspired by raw expression. At Rise we’re creating a unique sauna experience that draws inspiration from various traditional sauna cultures and results in a raw, engaging experience. I feel that we’ve succeeded in turning the more traditionally passive sauna experience into something more active, where members are physically and mentaly challenged.
What are valuable lessons learned from your training?
I’ve come to appreciate the central role that the mind plays in impacting our physical state and ability to withstand challenges, like the intense heat of the sauna. This is something I've always known in my heart, but get to see in practice daily at Rise: that the mind is the key, and when we find a way to empower the mind we can better withstand the challenges we face.

What does social wellness mean to you?
It feels really good to be a part of the Rise family, and it holds a special place in my heart. There’s a certain quality about the space that makes you feel comfortable to be yourself, and maybe that is community: a space and people that enable you to feel comfortable in your own skin.
